The Paperboys: News

Callithump now available on I-Tunes! Summer Gigs - June 7, 2010

Well it seems like it has been ages since we've updated our news section. Sorry about that. We've been busy and maybe even a little lazy. :)

So what is new you ask? Hmm…well a few things. First, we are happy to announce that 'Callithump' is available on I-Tunes. Yup, you can now download our latest, straight from the I-Tunes store and into your computer. All of our other CD's are available there too. Actual physical CD's are of course also available from CD Baby via our website, and at all of our shows.

And speaking of shows, we have been busy gigging all over the place. We just got back from a month long tour of Europe. We covered Germany, Switzerland and Spain! We had a ton of fun and played a ton of really cool shows. We are back to Europe at the end of this month. We will be doing more gigs in Germany as well as Ireland and Northern Ireland, including Belfast's Canada Day Celebrations on July first.

We will also be busy all over the Pacific Northwest this summer playing tons of gigs including The Mission Folk Festival, The Ollala Bluegrass Festival, The Triple Door in Seattle and The Dug Fir Lounge in Portland. Our full schedule is on the calendar section of our page.

Are you on Facebook? Who isn't? Even my mom is on Facebook! If you are, you should come join us on The Paperboys Facebook page. We have constant updates, lots of photos, music, videos and you can also interact with other Paperboys fans and friends. We are also on Twitter and MySpace.

Well folks, that is all the news that is fit to print for now. Check back again later when we will have another summer update. Hope you are all well and enjoying all the awesomeness summer brings. May your estival season be full of music, friends and good times.

Cheers,
Tom and The P'boys

Callithump Out Now!!! - August 24, 2009

Extra, extra, read all about it! Callithump, the new CD by The Paperboys is finally out!

It's been 3 years sine the release of The Road to Ellenisde and in that time the band has been busy touring, writing and recording. For the last few months you've been hearing all about the new CD, and now I am delighted to say that 'CALLITHUMP' has finally been released and is available for sale. You can pick up a copy at any of our shows, or you can order by mail from our store at cdbaby. Just follow this link here and a CD will be mailed to you and at your doorstep in only a few days. http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/ThePaperboys

To give you a feel for what the CD is all about, here is the dictionary meaning of the word.

Cal"li*thump`, n. A somewhat riotous parade, accompanied with the blowing of tin horns, and other discordant noises; also, a burlesque serenade; a charivari.

The CD was produced by Tom Landa and Joby Baker and includes the use of trumpets, whistles, banjos, fiddles, jaranas, drums, choirs, piano, cajon, bass, trombone, saxophone, congas, guiro, mandolins and guitars. It is a great representation of what the band sounds like 'live' these days.

You will be able to digitally download the CD from I-Tunes in a couple of weeks. We will email you as soon as it's available for download. In the meantime if you prefer to download, all of our other CD's are available from I-Tunes.

New CD!! Big Tour - April 1, 2009

Hola Amigos,

It has been far too long since we have posted an update or sent a newsletter and I do apologize for that. So without further ado, here is the latest and greatest.

OK, so the most exciting news is that we will have a brand new CD very soon! The record will be called 'Callithump' and we will be releasing it late this spring or early this summer. We are putting the finishing touches on it now, and are super excited about the way it is coming together. It is an ambitious project which fuses our love of Irish, Mexican, Bluegrass, Ska, Latin, Soul and African music.

Producer Joby Baker has been instrumental in shaping the sound of the record which includes the use of jaranas, guitars, banjos, whistles, flutes, pump organs, a four piece horn section, piano, fiddle, mandolin, drums, bass, cajon, tin cans, a garbage bin, congas, pandeiro, guiro, tres and of course lots of singing. We will let you know the second it is available.

We will be touring in support of this CD all summer and fall. Our tours will take us all over North America and Europe. Please check out our tour dates.

We will also be doing a spring tour of Ireland, Northern Ireland and England from May 2 to May 17th. I really hope you make it to one of these shows. Below is the schedule of that tour.

We will be taking on more North American dates once the CD is released and for all of you 'out east; we promise to make it out there as soon as possible. In the meantime you can check out the ton of videos on Youtube including our video of 'Fall Down With You' which had over 51,500 views last time I checked. Crazy!

I hope you are all keeping well, healthy and happy as a horses eating thistles.

CF Benefit a Big Success - November 5, 2008

Tom and Kendel raised $8,500 on behalf of the band and Mike and Cindy Hendricks this past Saturday in Seattle.

The Paperboys were auctioned off for a private party of 40 people. The party will take place this summer in Leavenworth at The River Haus on The Pines. http://www.riverhausinthepines.com/
Tom and Kenny performed one song during the Gala and a bidding frenzy followed their performance. Over the course of the black tie affair, there was $1,750,000 raised. Woohoo!

We urge you to donate to this cause if at all possible, as they receive little to no government funding. You can check out more at http://www.riverhausinthepines.com/

Hey ya'll,

We've changed the look and design of the site as well as added new videos, songs and photos.

We've also added some new songs including two from the brand spanking new 'Live from Stockfish Studios'. We've made the songs available for download. Yay, free stuff!

Drop us a line on our guestbook and tell us what you think.

So I guess the most exciting news is that we are back in the studio,
working on our 7th CD with producer Joby Baker. We recorded some
tracks during the summer and this month and next we will be recording
some more material. At the moment we hope to be done recording in
December with a tentative release date of March or April. We'll keep
you posted.

Speaking of records, a German record company called Stockfish Records
is releasing a 'best of' Paperboys album on both CD and vinyl this
month. In addition to the best of material, it will also contain 3 new
tracks. Stockfish Records specializes in acoustic music and deals
mostly with hi-fi shops in Europe and Asia. We will have copies for
sale at our shows, but it will also be available via the internet
through their site and ours.

AND, as if this wasn't enough, we are also putting together a live
and rarities CD which we hope to have ready in time for Christmas. The
live tracks were mostly recorded at The Tractor Tavern in Seattle last
December. The rest of the tracks were recorded in Ireland, Germany and
Vancouver.

It was a crazy busy year for us with 5 tours to Europe wich included
stops in Germany, Belgium, Austria, Ireland, Northern Ireland, The UK,
Poland and Holland. We also played a ton of shows in the US, mostly
concentrating in the Pacific Northwest. Well, 2009 promises more of
the same. At the moment we are confirmed for a return tour of Germany
and Switzerland in fall of 2009 and a tour is currently being planned
for spring of 09 to Holland, Ireland and the UK.

As always we thank you for your support and enthusiasm. Ya'll are the
best.

Please feel free to stop by our guestbook and drop us a line.

Hope you are all well and healthy. See you at a show soon.

Cheers,
Tom and The P'boys

Hi all,

We are pleased to welcome Tomtom Music into The Paperboys family.

Tomtom Music will be handling all bookings for the band in the UK from now on. We will be joining their roster alongside Tim O'Brien, Steve Forbert, Colin Hay and many others.

We will be returning to Britain and Scotland spring of 2008.

November Rain - November 5, 2007

Feliz dia de los muertos everyone! Just got back from a very successful tour of Ireland and Northern Ireland and wanted to say thanks to everyone who came out to support the shows.

We are so sorry we had to cancel the show in Leicester and we promise to make it up to you when we come back in the spring.

We also wanted to extend a very hearty Canadian thanks to Aidan, Andy, Debbie, Dougie, Julia, Jenny and all the other folks who worked hard to promote the band and help spread The Paperboys gospel. Thanks!

We now head out to California this weekend and looking forward to seeing our friends there.

Slainte,
t~ and the P'Boyz

October Spawned a Monster - October 19, 2007

Hey all,

Just a quick note to let you know we have corrected the dates on the calendar section. A few dates had been changed, cancelled or rearranged but they are now all straightened out. Wherever possible we put in a link to the venue and as much info as we have on the gig.

We are just about to jet off to Ireland, England and Scotland for about 10 days and hit California on our way back to Vancouver. We are psyched!

Happy Fall to you all. Bundle up, it's getting cold out there.

t~

date change - October 12, 2007

Please note that the date for Dublin has been changed from Sunday November 4th to Saturday November 3rd. Time and venues will stay the same.

Newsletter-Dates, Fall Schedule - August 14, 2007

At long last a much overdue newsletter/bulletin. I try to write these
as often as possible, but then life sometimes unfolds all around you
and you find yourself living it to the fullest and wishing you had
more hours in a day to get everything done.

It has been a great summer and I have enjoyed every minute of
sunshine, every note, every drink and every laugh. We have been down
many roads as of late and it never ceases to amaze me the kindness and
warmth of people when we reached our destination. We are a lucky band
with the world's greatest supporters and friends.

TOUR DATES: OK, so there are a bunch of things I want to let you know
about so I will start with tour dates. As always, dates are constantly
added to our never ending schedule, so don't wait to receive these
newsletters. Check back frequently for added dates.

I just finished adding the latest dates to our calendar and I am so
psyched for what we have coming up. Upcoming highlights for me include
a return visit to Portland (Yay! Finally!) a return to The Tractor in
Seattle, a fall tour of Germany, a return to Northern Ireland and
first time visits to Pithlockery Scotland and The Republic of Ireland.
We also have one date in England and will soon be adding more.

FRIENDS: Speaking of England we are stoked about our friends Miles
Hunt and Erica Nockalls coming to America to open up for us at a bunch
of shows in September. You may know Miles from his work with The
Wonder Stuff. They will be supporting us on all dates from September
7th to September 16th. Check them out on MySpace at
http://www.myspace.com/theactualmileshunt
WHEN ARE YOU COMING TO BOSTON: Many of you have been asking about
dates in Eastern US and Canada as well as more dates outside the
Pacific Northwest. Truth is we would love to return to tour all
throughout the US and the rest of Canada. Unfortunately, financially
it doesn't make much sense for us at the moment. We are not giving up
yet though and are always keeping our eyes and ears open for anchor
dates we could build a tour around.

WHEN DOES THE NEW CD COME OUT: On the recording front, we are hoping
to record this fall for a release next spring. At the moment we have
been writing new material and if you have been to any shows lately you
have heard a few of the new tunes.

MUSICAL CHAIRS: If you have been to a show in the last couple of
months you might have noticed the absence of both Geoffrey and Kendel.
Geoff has been busy touring with his band Spirit of the West and
Kendel has spent the summer playing with Outlaw Social as well as
working hard on her solo career. She has been touring in support of
her CD all over the US and Europe. We miss both of them of course, and
wish they could be at all the shows, however we realize that they have
other ambitions they need to pursue.

Having said that I strongly believe all the shows have rocked with
their replacements as well as the addition of the horn section. Both Kenny and Geoff will be with us this weekend when we play at the Blues and Roots Festival in Salmon Arm.

MAIL AND COMMENTS: We love to get mail (who doesn't really?) and we encourage to leave us a message on our message board or if you are not the PDA type then email us at thepaperboys@gmail.com

Hope you are all well and enjoying your summer. As I said earlier, we appreciate your support and never take ya'll for granted. Hope to see you at a show soon.

Peace,
Tom

August Update - August 5, 2007

Well, it has been a while since I have written an update and for that I am sorry. Things have been a wee bit hectic since we returned from Europe this June.

We have been up to our old tricks out here on the West Coast-lots of gigs, writing new songs, recording a live show in Vancouver for CBC radio and generally keeping busy with all things music.

I promise to write a proper update soon, but in the meantime I just wanted to let you know I posted some new dates on our calendar section and will be adding more in the days to come.

Hope you are all enjoying your summer so far and that you get a chance to see the band live soon.

Cheers,
Tom

Thanks! and Greetings from England. - May 14, 2007

Hey all,

Just wanted to send a big thank you to everyone who came out to the shows in Germany, Switzerland and Denmark. We had a fantastic time on our tour despite the few illness' that plagued the band. We never want to see another hospital ever again but we are all doing well now and in good spirits.

We also wanted to say thanks to all of you who left us a comment, emailed us or expressed your compliment and enthusiasm in person. Your support never goes unnoticed and is always appreciated.

We have left continental Europe and are now in the UK ready to embark on our tour of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. (Dates are posted on our calendar)

We will be back in North America in June where we will have a month off before we resume our touring schedule in Seattle at the beginning of July.

Hope to see you at an upcoming show soon. If you have friends in any of the cities we will be playing make sure you tell them to come out and show some love.

So thanks again for your support. We'll see you down the road.

Cheers,
Tom and the P'boys

Paul "Lolly" Lawton CD now out - February 8, 2007

We are so happy to inform you that the tribute CD to our dear friend Paul 'Lolly' Lawton is now out and available from our friends at cdbaby. http://cdbaby.com/cd/paullollylawton
As many of you know, Lolly was our drummer for over 6 years and we sadly lost him to a tragic accident in the summer of 2005.

In addition to being a wonderful human being and a fantastic drummer, Lolly was a phenomenal songwriter. Lucky for us he left recordings of his songs on several mini discs. They were lovely versions recorded by him with just a voice and guitar.

Over the months of November and December we re-recorded all of these songs as well as adding some tracks to the existing voice and guitar.

The cast of musicians who recorded his music were all people that Lolly played music with over the years and include The Paperboys, Rob Bracken, Andy Collins, Tim Readman, Big Head Project and Cody Westman.

It is a wonderful CD, we hope you pick one up.

More details on him, his charities, the CD and his life can be found on his website at www.paullawton.ca

New Dates added to Calendar- Fragile video - January 9, 2007

Hey all,

There are a bunch of new dates on our calendar. It's looking like 2007 is going to be crazy busy for us. Hopefully we will be near you soon.

In other news, we just did a day of filming for our video for 'Fragile". I leave this weekend to do some more filming in Mexico. Yay!!
We should have a finished product in a couple of weeks. We'll keep you posted.

cheers,
Tom
